Shani was burdened with a curse that rendered his gaze destructive; wherever he looked, calamity followed. Though he stood at a distance, Parvati noticed his reluctance and insisted that he look at her son.

Despite his reservations, Shani could not refuse the goddess’s request. With great caution, he cast a glance at the child from the edge of his left eye. In an instant, tragedy struck—the infant’s head fell off, leaving the divine assembly in shock and sorrow. Parvati was heartbroken, and Shiva, too, was devastated by the loss of their son.

In this moment of grief, Lord Vishnu, ever compassionate, sprang into action. Mounting Garuda, his mighty eagle, Vishnu soared across the skies to the banks of the sacred Pushpa-Bhadra river. There, he found the head of a young elephant, which he swiftly brought back to restore the life of the child. With divine precision, Vishnu joined the elephant’s head to the headless body of Parvati’s son, reviving him and bestowing upon him the name Ganesha. The gods, witnessing this miraculous event, showered Ganesha with blessings, ensuring his power, wisdom, and prosperity.
