PUTANA'S FAILED ATTEMPT TO KILL LORD KRISHNA

PUTANA'S FAILED ATTEMPT TO KILL LORD KRISHNA

Kamsa was in utmost distress upon hearing that Devaki's eighth child was safe. Desperate to eliminate the baby boy, he enlisted the help of a fearsome demoness named Putana. Putana was a terrifying figure with long hair, sharp nails, protruding teeth, and a blood-red tongue. Lacking knowledge of Krishna's whereabouts, Kamsa commanded Putana to kill all children under ten days old in his kingdom.

Putana eagerly accepted the task, relishing the fear her killings would instill among the people. She went on a rampage, killing babies around Krishna’s age, and eventually reached Krishna's village. Hearing about Yashoda’s special son, she realized that this child must be Krishna.

Aware of Krishna's extraordinary nature, Kamsa had warned Putana that killing him would not be easy. She transformed herself into a beautiful maiden to deceive the villagers and Krishna's parents. Before entering their home, she poisoned her breasts with venom from a deadly snake.

Upon reaching Krishna's house, she greeted everyone politely and asked Yashoda if she could feed the young boy. Unaware of the demoness's ill intentions, Yashoda allowed her to do so. Putana took Krishna to the backyard and began feeding him poisonous milk. To her horror, she felt the baby sucking the life out of her. She tried to release his grip, but Krishna held on tightly. Desperate, she reverted to her demoness form to scare the baby, but Krishna remained unfazed.

In a final attempt to free herself, Putana flew into the air, hoping Krishna would let go. Instead, Krishna sucked the life out of her, causing her to fall to the ground. The villagers, petrified by the scene, rushed to save Krishna. To their astonishment, they found the little boy happily smiling and playing on the demoness's lifeless body.
