At that moment, fate played its hand, and Karna’s chariot wheel became stuck in the muddy battlefield. Desperate, Karna dismounted to free the wheel and, in a rare plea for fairness, called out to Arjuna, asking him to pause the fight until he could recover his chariot.

Karna’s request for mercy was met with a stern reminder from Krishna, who was well aware of the injustices that had taken place during the war. Krishna reminded Arjuna of the day when the Kauravas, including Karna, had broken the sacred code of war by attacking and killing the young and unarmed Abhimanyu, Arjuna’s son. The brutality of that act had been a betrayal of dharma, and now, as Karna pleaded for fairness, Krishna’s words struck like a thunderbolt: “You shot at unarmed Abhimanyu, was that fair?”

Krishna’s reminder of Karna’s past actions ignited a fire of righteous anger within Arjuna. The memories of his beloved son’s merciless death flooded his mind, fueling his desire for justice. Without hesitation, Arjuna drew his bow and released a powerful arrow that struck down Karna, ending the life of one of the most valiant warriors on the battlefield.

This pivotal moment in the Mahabharata teaches us that the consequences of our actions, both good and bad, inevitably catch up with us. Krishna, with his divine wisdom, guided Arjuna to fulfill his duty and uphold the principles of dharma, even in the face of personal anguish.
