THE POWER OF LORD GANESHA: THE UNINVITED GUEST WHO STOPPED THE DIVINE PROCESSION

In the celestial realms of Swarg Lok, a grand occasion was unfolding—Lord Vishnu’s wedding. The gods and goddesses, dressed in their finest attire, had gathered to celebrate the union of the great preserver of the Universe. However, amidst all the joyous preparation, one important deity was left behind—Lord Ganesha. Ganesha, the elephant-headed god known for his love of food and wisdom, was tasked with guarding Swarg Lok while everyone else attended the wedding.

As Ganesha stood vigil, alone and excluded, the mischievous sage Narada Muni passed by. Noticing Ganesha’s solitude, Narada, always eager to stir things up, approached him. With a twinkle in his eye, Narada remarked, "Ganesha, do you know why you weren’t invited to the wedding?" Ganesha, curious but calm, listened as Narada continued, "They didn’t invite you because they think you eat too much and are too fat to fit in with the festivities!"

These words struck a chord deep within Ganesha. He felt insulted and angry. How could they forget that he is the God of Beginnings, the remover of all obstacles? Fueled by righteous indignation, Ganesha decided to teach the gods a lesson they wouldn’t forget. He summoned his army of mice, his loyal companions, and gave them a unique command. "Go forth," he said, "and dig deep into the ground beneath the path where the marriage procession will pass. Make it hollow and weak."

The mice, swift and silent, did as their master commanded. They burrowed beneath the earth, creating hidden tunnels that weakened the road. As the grand chariot carrying Lord Vishnu and his bride approached, the ground gave way, and the wheels of the chariot became stuck in the earth. The entire procession came to a sudden halt, causing great confusion and dismay among the gods.

One by one, the gods tried to free the chariot, using all their divine strength and power, but it was in vain. Even the combined efforts of the mightiest deities could not budge the chariot. Just then, a simple passerby happened to see the struggling procession. Observing their distress, he offered to help. With humility, he approached the chariot and invoked the name of Lord Ganesha. “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah,” he chanted, and with that, the wheels of the chariot effortlessly lifted from the ground, freeing it from the earth’s grip.

The gods were astonished. They asked the passerby how he had accomplished such a feat when they had all failed. The man simply replied, "I took the name of Lord Ganesha, for he is the God of Beginnings, the remover of obstacles. With his blessings, no challenge is insurmountable."

Realizing their mistake, the gods felt a deep sense of remorse. They had underestimated the importance of Ganesha, forgetting his crucial role in all auspicious events. Without delay, they returned to Swarg Lok, where they humbly apologized to Ganesha for their oversight. They acknowledged his greatness and invited him to join them at the wedding. Ganesha, ever benevolent, forgave them and agreed to attend. With Ganesha now in their midst, the wedding proceeded without further hindrance, blessed by his divine presence.

This tale serves as a reminder of the indispensable role of Ganesha, especially during moments of new beginnings and important rituals. Whether it’s Ganesh Chaturthi or Sawan Shivratri, invoking Ganesha’s name ensures that all endeavors proceed smoothly, free from obstacles.

In modern times, we can carry this devotion with us in various ways.
