The gods, led by Devraj Indra, were helpless against him. In their desperation, they turned to Lord Vishnu, who wisely led them to Lord Shiva. Hearing their plea, Lord Shiva assured them that a divine child would soon be born who would end Gajmukhasur's tyranny.

Soon after, Lord Ganesha was born to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. From his birth, it was clear that Ganesha was destined for greatness. Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati blessed him with a unique boon: anyone who worshipped Ganesha before beginning any venture would be granted success, free from obstacles. Despite Gajmukhasur’s powerful attacks, his weapons bowed in submission before Ganesha’s divine might. Realizing defeat was imminent, Gajmukhasur attempted to escape by transforming himself into a massive mouse. But Ganesha, with his infinite wisdom and strength, easily subdued the mouse and commanded it to serve as his vahana. From that day onward, the once-mighty Gajmukhasur, now humbled, became the loyal mount of Lord Ganesha.

An alternate version of this story tells of a celestial musician named Krauncha, who, cursed by Sage Vaamadeva, was transformed into a gigantic, destructive mouse. When Krauncha encountered Lord Ganesha, the god captured him effortlessly. Humbled, Krauncha begged for forgiveness and offered to serve as Ganesha’s mount. Moved by Krauncha’s remorse, Ganesha accepted the offer. However, when the mouse struggled under the god’s weight, Ganesha compassionately reduced his size, allowing the mouse to carry him with ease.

These tales not only explain how the mouse became Lord Ganesha’s vahana but also highlight the themes of humility, transformation, and divine grace.
